SUMMARY:

Perform a variety of the technical procedures involved in the procurement and processing of patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Prepare patients
  1. Greet and arrive the patient
  2. Follow patient verification protocol
  3. Provide high level of customer service using AIDET
  4. Explain treatment procedures


Prepare laboratory specimens
  1. Perform phlebotomy as required by specimen collection policies.
  2. Receive and process specimens as required by respective laboratory area procedures and protocols.
  3. Participate in the distribution of specimens, supplies and reports to the appropriate laboratory staff
  4. Perform messenger/courier activities as required


Perform various quality control, safety, and infection control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
  1. Sterilize equipment
  2. Disinfect equipment
  3. Clean room
  4. Dispose of bio-hazardous waste and sharps
  5. Perform routine maintenance as required by laboratory procedures


Perform administrative duties as directed
  1. Document patient communications accurately and appropriately
  2. Answer telephones
  3. Order supplies and perform inventory of supplies and equipment
  4. Other duties as assigned


Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School diploma or GED
  2. Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation
  3. Certification as a Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized agency/board
  4. Basic phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques
  5. Knowledge of medical terms preferred
  6. Basic computer skills
