SUMMARY:

The Plastics Procedure RN works closely with the Plastic Surgeons to facilitate all aspects of clinical care for patients here for procedures. The Plastics Procedure RN will ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction by maintaining close contact with each patient throughout the pre- op, intra-op, and post-op process. The Plastics Procedure RN will also use their nursing background to educate patients about all aspects of their procedures, testing, and medications and post op care. The Plastics RN will assist with in-office procedures to include procedures with varied levels of sedation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Patient Satisfaction/Responding to Patients:

a) Appropriately notify the Plastics department manager if unable to cover a time frame agreed to previously.

b) Return patient calls promptly.

c) Provide clean and comfortable environment for patients.

d) Strive to build caring, trusting relationships with patients to decrease patient anxiety.

e) Perform all duties in a timely and efficient manner.

  1. Coordinate patient care

a) Provide patient with all post- operative instructions and information including scheduled follow-up appointments.

b) Carefully review patient medications pre-operatively and discuss medications with surgeons prior to procedure if there are changes since the pre-operative visit.

c) Have consents signed prior to start of procedure

d) Assist with in -office procedures to include procedures with varying levels of sedation. Depending on the case the Plastics RN will:

1) Assist with pre- and post op care

2) The Plastics RN may circulate when there is anesthesia in the office

3) Administer conscious sedation for appropriate procedures under the direct supervision of the MD per PSC policy.

  1. Maintain rooms, equipment and supplies:

a) Clean rooms and change linens per clinic policy.

b) Assist other staff with emptying laundry, trash and securing procedure rooms per clinic policy.

c) Assist in maintaining inventory and stocking of products as needed.

d) Assist other staff with cleaning equipment and procedure area per established protocols

e) Notify the manger if any equipment is in need of repair immediately.

f) Examine medications and supplies for expiration date prior to use in patient care.

  1. Safety: Ensure Patient & Staff Safety:

a) Follow OSHA, HIPAA & infection control guidelines using

b) Follow universal precautions when caring for patients; Use PPE per policy

c) Follow all PSC policies when caring for patients

d) Provide wheelchairs and gurneys to assist patients and other staff with patient transfers and ambulation as needed.

  1. Other Duties/Reports:

a) Assist physicians in procedures and examinations of patients when requested or needed.

  1. Documentation and Compliance:

a) Accurate Documentation of: All encounters including patient education.

b) Attend required educational meetings, in-services, and competency validation activities as needed.

c) Maintain competency with all equipment and technology used in the care of patients.

d) Comply with clinic dress code policy including ID badge and surgical attire.

  1. Proactively Assist in Fiscal Management of Plastics Department Resources:

a) Notify plastics staff/manager after each case about supply needs on after each case assisting the department with avoiding the need to over-night items or pay increased shipping fees for "rush orders."

Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Graduation certificate from an accredited RN school of nursing
  2. Hold and Maintain current NCBON RN nursing license
  3. ACLS (Required)
  4. PALS (Required for General Anesthesia Cases)
  5. Strong computer skills

  3. Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting
  4. Able to use and apply medical terminology appropriately in verbal and written communication; especially during patient teaching regarding procedures.
  5. Exemplary customer service skills and willingness to assign high priority to patient comfort and satisfaction.

  8. Ability to stand/walk for up to 8-12 hours/day
  9. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and assist patients in rising from and returning to a wheelchair, procedure chair, or exam/procedure table.
