SUMMARY:
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the daily performance of diagnostic ultrasounds. The sonographer must perform high quality scans in accordance with AIUM standards and be able to adequately meet the needs of the physicians and the department.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
• Accountable to the Women's Care Center Manager
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Service: Maximize utilization of Ultrasound services
• Preparing for diagnostic tests
• Set up ultrasound machine for diagnostic test
• Check for patient arrival in Allscripts/Athena
• Check for patient orders
• View patient chart for previous studies and pertinent information
• Complete Viewpoint reports
• Input appropriate charges ensuring medical necessity
• Inform nurse or provider of completion of exams
• Ensure physician needs are met to increase resource utilization
• Ensure protocols and standards are up to date for accreditation
• Assist in ordering supplies
• Attend ultrasound and department meetings
2. Service: Ensure Customer Satisfaction
• Call patients by name and check date of birth
• Perform diagnostic tests in a timely manner
• Escort patient to appropriate waiting area
• Explain procedures
• Answer patient questions
• Have patient undress appropriately for test
• Perform appropriate ultrasound procedure
• Assess need for additional follow up exams
• Notify ordering physician of abnormal exams before patient leaves the office
• Ensure documentation is obtained
• Provide superior service to ensure customer satisfaction to both patients and providers
3. Quality: Exam Room Maintenance
• Clean and maintain exam room
• Clean and maintain equipment
• Maintain stock of supplies; order supplies when necessary
• Stock linens and maintain rooms in a neat and orderly manner
• Ensure all imaging equipment are up to date with preventative maintenance
4. Quality: Appointment Efficiency and Volume
• Maximizing Volume and Appointment Efficiency through work-ins and communicating availability in schedule.
5. Growth/Finance: Perform administrative duties as directed
• Answer instant messages and phones efficiently
• Assist in training personnel.
• Maximize scheduling
• Timeliness for charge entry, imaging 24 hour turnaround time.
• Accuracy of charge entry, checking edits.

Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with OB/GYN certification
• Certified in First Trimester Screening
• Current BLS certification
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

• Work well with others
• Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting
• Use and apply medical terminology appropriately
• Ability to use both arms and hands and maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning
• Ability to move ultrasound machine and help patients out of wheelchairs and onto exam bed for diagnostic test
